After two decades working with leaders and teams across sectors, continents, and leadership levels, Melody Moore grew frustrated with a glaring gap in most DEI efforts. While organisations poured energy into developing ‘inclusive leaders’ or tackling individual bias, almost no one was focusing on where inclusion really lives (or dies): the team environment.

That’s why she created The Inclusive Team™ – a practical, evidence-based model that brings inclusion and performance together at the level where culture actually happens. Drawing on her experience leading the UK & Ireland DEI practice for a global consultancy, as well as her deep expertise in team development, Melody designed a framework that integrates not just DEI, but also the core behaviours that make high performance teams.

Inspired by insights from psychological safety (Amy Edmondson), growth mindset (Carol Dweck), and intellectual humility (Shane Snow), this model bridges theory and practice—giving leaders and teams the tools they need to build environments where everyone can belong and perform.

The result is five clusters – Trust, Alignment, Growth, Adaptability and Respect – and ten sub-clusters (shown on the outside of the model) that capture the key elements of an inclusive high performing team as illustrated in the diagram above.

Inclusive Team Diagnostic

  2. Self-Assessment Version: Helps individuals understand their personal contribution to an inclusive, high-performing team.

  3. Team Version: Aggregates responses from intact teams, offering insights into collective perceptions and areas for growth.
